The Sculpture

A striking handcrafted brass Shankh (conch shell) that brings together sacred Hindu symbolism and the distinctive artistry of Bastar Dhokra.

The Shankh is one of the most auspicious symbols in Hindu tradition and is closely associated with Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, purity, prosperity, protection, and positive energy. Traditionally used during pooja and religious ceremonies, the conch is also believed to represent the sacred sound of creation.

This interpretation transforms that ancient symbol into a sculptural work of tribal metal art. Its organic shell form, intricate surface work, and warm antique-gold finish give it a distinctive presence whether displayed in a pooja room, temple, console, meditation space, or curated Indian art collection.

The sculpture is made using the traditional Dhokra lost-wax casting technique practiced by tribal artisans of Bastar. The form is first created in wax, with decorative details worked into the surface by hand. A clay mold is then built around it and molten brass is poured in. Once cast, the clay mold is broken away and the sculpture is individually finished.

This traditional process makes every piece subtly different, with natural variations that reflect the hand of the artisan.

A sacred symbol, reimagined as Bastar tribal art.
