Nandi, the sacred bull and devoted companion of Lord Shiva, is beautifully rendered in this substantial handcrafted Bastar Dhokra sculpture. With its powerful form, intricate tribal detailing, and striking antique brass-and-black finish, it makes a meaningful statement piece as well as a distinctive work of Indian tribal art.

In Hindu tradition, Nandi represents strength, patience, purity, and unwavering devotion. Traditionally placed facing Lord Shiva, Nandi is also regarded as a guardian and a symbol of steadfastness.

This sculpture is created by artisans from Chhattisgarh using the ancient Dhokra lost-wax casting technique. The form is built in wax and covered with layers of clay before molten brass is poured into the mold. Once cast, the clay mold is broken away, leaving a unique brass sculpture that is individually finished by hand.

No two Dhokra sculptures are ever exactly alike. Natural variations in texture, pattern, and finish are part of the beauty of this centuries-old craft.
