The Sculptures

Two stags stand alert, heads turned toward one another, crowned with tall, branching antlers cast in fine detail. Their bodies carry individually rendered fur strokes running from neck to flank, slender cast legs giving each figure a light, poised stance. Made using the 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting technique of Bastar's tribal artisans — a hand-modeled clay core wrapped in wax thread, then cast in molten brass, with the wax destroyed in the process. Even within this matched pair, no two pieces are ever perfectly identical.
