The Sculpture

A single vase curves gracefully to one side, its surface covered edge to edge in fine, hand-etched linework that follows the sweep of the form like the veins of a leaf. The mouth opens at an angle, echoing the tilt of the body below, with a raised horizontal band marking a natural break between the upper and lower sections. Made using the 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting technique of Bastar's tribal artisans — a hand-modeled clay core wrapped in wax thread, then cast in molten brass, with the wax destroyed in the process. No two pieces are ever identical.
